Thank You, Year 12

Newly appointed Head Prefect, Poppy, delivered this heartfelt tribute to the graduating class of 2025.

Each week, our student leaders share their insights with their peers in Assembly.

On behalf of Year 11 and the entire School community, I would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the leaders of our school, the Year 12 cohort.

Year 12, you have led with an open heartedness that has brought immense joy to us all. From enthusiastically led dance parties, standing ovations and House Cheer rehearsals, to gentle words of wisdom and support, your leadership has resonated in loud and quiet ways alike. As I am sure many others have, I have especially admired the way you have uplifted each other as you take on the HSC together. Whether by checking your friends have a safe way home after a late night in West Commons or joyfully practising house choral choreography in between study sessions, the camaraderie you have role-modelled is truly special. As we approach your graduation, it is without doubt that your absence will be felt by all of us. But so too will your legacy and the lovely culture you have fostered.

Of course, this legacy that has been wonderfully guided by the Prefect team, and the strong, warm and good-humoured leadership of Zara, Lucy, Claudia and Ishnika. The message ‘No Grit, No Pearl’ will remain a source of strength for our community, and the Grit Box initiative will continue to connect us to our peers. It is a daunting task to step into the impressive shoes of this Executive team, but Izzy, Emmy and I are grateful for their faith and encouragement, which has made it much less so.

Year 12, you are all going to achieve incredible things beyond these gates but today serves as an opportunity to reflect on what you have already achieved here, at Wenona; to celebrate the kindnesses that you never performed for recognition but which deserve recognition all the more for this reason.

So, to the Executive team and the class of 2025, thank you. You have been and will continue to be the best friends, confidantes, teammates and leaders we could ask for. We wish you all the best with your last few weeks of School and exams. We’re going to miss you very, very much, but can’t wait to see what you do next!
